George Street, Hastings - Road closure due to damaged building

Information:

As you are likely aware, due to recent fire damage to a disused building, George St (between the junction of the A259 and Albion Lane) was closed for both vehicle and pedestrian access on 18 January 2023, following a request from East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service.

This closure will remain in place until the remains of the damaged building are demolished.

Those who live in the properties within the closure will still be able to gain access however pedestrians and drivers will need to follow the diversion and gain access to George St from the junction with the High Street.

The demolition is being overseen by Hastings Borough Council Officers and any questions which relate to this should be sent to planning@hastings.gov.uk

Please note that “100 steps” does not form part of the public Highway, so any questions relating to this will also need to sent to Hastings Borough Council’s Building Control Team on the above address.
